This is important, so pay attention!
Make sure you are eating ENOUGH calories. FOOD IS FUEL… So Fill Up Your Tank!
As women, all working towards health and fitness goals, hitting it hard for the new year, we tend to think about cutting calories. And, for some of us, that might be necessary. For large weight-loss goals or if your daily intake has been extraordinarily high, then yes, cut some calories.
But, from what I’ve noticed (especially during detox), when we start eating really clean, cutting starchy carbs and sweets, our daily calorie intake tends to be too low. Many food journals I’ve seen have had days at 600-800 calories. Plain and simple, this is not enough food!!
You are a Kaia girl. You are active and training hard 5 days a week. You must FUEL this athletic lifestyle. It might be new to you or it might be your first time following our nutrition plan, so adjustment will take time. But it is essential that you do not starve yourself of necessary nutrition- and enough of it!
At Kaia, we suggest aiming for 1200 calories per day. This is not an exact number and it will vary from person to person, but it’s a good starting point. When eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, this might seem like a big task. You might feel like you eat smoothies and salads all day and can never reach 1000 calories.
Here are some suggestions for adding healthy calories to your daily intake:
- Nuts & seeds/Almond butter
- Almond or soy milk
- Eggs/egg whites
- Olive oil
If you are feeling weak during workouts or feeling hungry all of the time, don’t be afraid to eat. Listen to your body.
On the other hand, when you’re full and satisfied, know when to stop eating. It’s a balance and something that takes time to get the hang of. As always, please feel free to ask any Kaia Coach for help! That’s what we’re here for!
